James Milton Reeder

 

skyHENDERSON, KY - James Milton Reeder, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Lourdes Noreen McKeen Residence, after a brief illness, while residing in Palm Beach County. He was formerly of Henderson. He was 87 and would have celebrated his 88th birthday on Thanksgiving Day.

He was born Nov. 24, 1923, in Henderson to the late Milton and Esther Jones Reeder. While residing in Henderson, James served as a deacon at Immanuel Baptist Temple and Zion Baptist Church. He retired from Ideal Pure Milk Company in 1983, having the largest route sales in Henderson and Evansville. James was a farmer and always enjoyed gardening. He loved woodworking, painting and hard work. Once he retired, he was usually helping his children on their many projects. He was a devoted husband who cared for his wife "in sickness and in health." Mr. Reeder's love for his family was second only to his love of Jesus Christ. James lived out that love for the Lord through his service to family and friends.

He was preceded in death and is now reunited with his wife, Gwendolyn, after celebrating 63 years of marriage together. They were married on Christmas Day, 1943.

Other survivors include his five children, Steve and his wife, Mary Nell, of Henderson, Bob and his wife, Celia, both of Charlotte, N.C., Linda and her husband, Rod Sidway, both of Palm Springs, Fla., John and his wife, Amber, both of Indianapolis and Susie of Fayetteville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Baptist Church. The Rev. Mark Galloway and Dr. Dan Garland will officiate. A private family burial will be in Cash Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Jameson Reeder, Joshua Reeder, Justin Reeder, Jacob Reeder, Chad Mehne, Tony Siewert and Kris Kemp.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Zion Baptist Church, Journey to Tomorrow.
