Johnnie Mays, 63, Du Quoin

 

obit21HENDERSON, KY - Johnnie Mays, 63, Du Quoin, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, in Oak Grove, Mo.

Johnnie had been a truck driver. He was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was born Aug. 16, 1948, in Henderson, the son of LeRoy and Fannie Holeman Mays.

He married Susan B. Pinkstaff on July 20, 1979, in Springfield, Mo., and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; four daughters, Penny Berry and her husband, David, of Henderson, Kristi Bechtold and her husband, Rob, of Naples, Fla., Kari DeHart and her husband, Charles Scott, of Du Quoin, and Kassi Mays and friend, Kevin Peterson, of Carterville, Ill.; three sisters, Dora Canton and Nancy Morgan, both of Henderson, and Betty Mattingly of Corydon; two brothers, Roy Mays and Philip Mays, both of Henderson; and 11 grandchildren, Megan Rice, Mallory Rice, Isreal Bechtold, Araceli Bechtold, Jacob Bechtold, Olivia Bechtold, Mallory Bechtold, Joshua Webb, Hunter John Mays, Reese DeHart and Ethan Scott DeHart.

Graveside services will be at noon Friday at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. The Rev. Joe Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
