HENDERSON, KY - George Lynn Austin, 85, Henderson, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in St. Vincent de Paul Society. George was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a retired insurance agent from Vaughn Insurance Agency. He also was a member and former president of the Henderson County Lions Club and former chairman of the Henderson County Zoning Board. He was an avid fisherman and Kentucky Wildcat fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lucy Sandefur Austin.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Virginia "Ginny"; one daughter, Jenny Lynn Cissell and her husband, Steve, of Evansville; three sons, Perry Austin and his wife, Gracie, and Dickie Austin and his wife, Terri, all of Henderson, and Tom Austin and his wife, Sheila, of Evansville; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Father Larry McBride will officiate. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery, with full military rites performed by American Legion Worsham Post No. 40. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and until 10 a.m. Saturday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Friday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Pallbearers will be Perry Austin, Justin Robinson, Dax Cissell, Brian Austin, Drew Austin and Skyler Austin.
