Vechell R. Calhoun, 87, Henderson

 

3sunsetHENDERSON, KY - Vechell R. Calhoun, 87, Henderson, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.

He was a member of Watson Lane Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He retired from L&N/CSX Railroad, where he worked as a supervisor in the bridge and building department. He also was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warner Morrison "Jack" and Flossie Mae Walker Calhoun, and two sons, Ronnie Gene Calhoun and Bennie M. Calhoun.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Regina Mae Thompson Calhoun; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Hite and Betty Kellough, both of Indiana; two sons, Billy Gene Calhoun of Henderson and Joseph Richard "Ricky" Calhoun of Green County; one sister, Willie Shope of Louisville; two brothers, Aubrey Calhoun of Summersville, Ky., and David Calhoun of Magnolia, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg, Ky. Burial will be in Bell Cemetery in Green County.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Watson Lane Baptist Church and after 7 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
