3flowerHENDERSON, KY - Virginia A. Smith, 81, Henderson, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Medco Center of Henderson.

Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Major Arthur D. Smith; her parents, Ritmon and Abbie Holliday; two sisters, Shirley Mills and Mildred Stephenson; and one brother, Samuel Holliday.

She graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She worked at the Children's Hospital in San Francisco. Ms. Smith joined the United States Air Force, achieved the rank of lieutenant, and served as a nurse in France. She also worked at Methodist Hospital and Accuride.

Survivors include one daughter, Leigh Ann Howard of Henderson; one brother, Thomas R. Holliday of Henderson; one sister, Dorothy Collins of Henderson; two grandchildren, Haleigh Nicole Howard and Abbie Grace Howard, both of Henderson; nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The Rev. David A. White will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony's Hospice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.
