Ruth Ernestine Puryear Fletcher, 78, Henderson

 

HENDERSON, KY - Ruth Ernestine Puryear Fletcher, 78, Henderson, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at her home under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice.

She was born July 15, 1933, in Union County to George Lee and Ruby Whitledge Puryear. After many years of service, she retired from Methodist Hospital. She was a member of Henderson Church of Christ and was well-known for her faith, love of her family and great cooking ability.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Leroy Fletcher; her parents; one sister, Dorothy Eugenia Newman and her husband, William L.; and four brothers, Kestner Lee Puryear and his wife, Amelia, William Bernard Puryear, Louis Raymond Puryear and Charles Edward Puryear.

Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Ruth Fletcher of Henderson and Carol Jean Moseley and her husband, Keith, of Corydon; two sons, Edward Michael Fletcher and his wife, Donna, of Corydon and Charles Alan Fletcher and his wife, Karen, of Henderson; two sisters-in-law, Marcell Puryear of Newburgh and Iva Jean Puryear of Henderson; six grandchildren, Rachel Garrison and her husband, Ben, of Pleasant Grove, Ala., Joey Fletcher of South Haven, Miss., Erin Peirce and her husband, Dave, of Louisville, Jonathan Ross of Henderson, Josh Fletcher and his wife, Laken, of Corydon and Meredith Fletcher of Dixon; two great-granddaughters, Charlotte Ruth Peirce of Louisville and Emma Grace Garrison of Pleasant Grove; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Tapp Funeral Home. Gary Puryear will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Henderson Church of Christ, 1202 N. Green St., Henderson, KY 42420, St. Anthony's Hospice, 2410 S. Green St., Henderson, KY 42420 or the Alzheimers Association.
