HOPKINS COUNTY, KY - William Edward Shinall, age 97, of Madisonville, KY, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Hillside Villa Care and Rehabilitation Center in Madisonville.
He was born September 14, 1914 in Webster County to the late William F. Shinall and Gertrude Watson Shinall. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Nellie Grace McGaw Shinall and his 2nd wife Alma Dee Hazel Shinall and one daughter, Nancy Snyder.
Mr. Shinall was an outdoorsman and mechanic. He was a member of Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church. He rescued more than 100 people during the Flood of January 1937 in Paducah. He was a welder who helped build LST’s #6 and #8 which helped make WW II’s D-Day landing possible. He also worked as a welder on KY Dam.
He is survived by one son, David (Tova) Shinall of Murray, KY; one step-daughter, Rosalyn “Rose” Howe of Winslow, IN; three step-sons, Reuben (Jeanne) Hazel of Lenzburg, IL; Michael (Brenda) Hazel of Frankfort, IN and Robert Hayes of Dixon, KY; ten grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Rock Springs Cemetery near Wheatcroft, KY with Rev. Keith Harris officiating.
Mr. Shinall had requested memorial contributions to be made to the KY Baptist Children’s Home.
