Local Citizens Hold Second Candlelight Vigil for Taylor

TaylorlightHOPKINS COUNTY, KY (8/12/12) – For the second night in a row, citizens throughout the area gathered on Sunday night at 8 PM in memory of Leukemia Victim Taylor Patterson.

Taylor passed away in her battle with Leukemia on Saturday. Taylor’s long-term battle, refusal to surrender to this dreaded disease, and her faith have made quite an impact upon Hopkins County and surrounding areas.

Both tonight’s vigil, held at the Madisonville City Park, and the prior night’s vigil, held at the old Madisonville Courthouse, were organized by Rodney Brasher and Richard Tucker of Madisonville. Rodney, a friend of the Patterson family, stated that he was very proud of young Taylor.

“It’s all I can do to stand up there and speak,” said Brasher. “Taylor fought a tough battle. She didn’t give up at all. There are so many words to say about her. She was a remarkable young lady. She touched a lot of lives and she’s going to continue to do that. She never said why me, she never met a stranger.”

SurfKY News also spoke to another individual attending the event, Tanya Perdue.

“Taylor gave people hope,” said Perdue. “My son got picked on a lot. He has ADHD. Whenever everyone else picked on him, she took up for him. She was his friend. She was great at softball, such a loving person. Her story is just inspiring. I almost gave up hope when they told me my daughter had cancer, but Taylor gave me hope.”

Over 150 people stood at the stage next to the playground at the city park, each one holding a candle of remembrance, respect, and love for Taylor Patterson.

If anyone wishes to help the Patterson family cover their expenses of hospital bills, travel, and others, drop off your donation at the office of Richard Tucker on the corner of Main Street and Center Street in downtown Madisonville. All donations are greatly appreciated.
