Bruce Harry Davis, age 78

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Bruce Harry Davis, age 78, was called to glory on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Baptist Health in Madisonville, KY. He was born in Cadiz, Ohio on January 1, 1935 to the late Vernon & Stella Baker Davis. Mr. Davis worked for many years and retired at Peabody Camp #2 where he was a Fire-boss and a Safety Belt Inspector. However, he worked in several additional capacities. He served our country in the U. S. Army with the 11th Airborne from 1954 through 1957. Upon reentering civilian life, Mr. Davis served in law enforcement in several West KY communities, and he served as the Police Chief of Dawson Springs in 1962-63. Additionally, he worked for five years with Mid-South Plastics in Dawson Springs.

Mr. Davis had a passion for life, and he greatly loved his family. Additionally, he shared interests in fishing, hunting, nature, and he was an amateur astronomer. At his residence he constructed an observatory where he owned and utilized several telescopes for viewing the heavens. He enjoyed capturing some great photos of differing galaxies, planets and comets. He found enjoyment in sharing his love of astronomy with friends and young people, and was known to have visited the Dalton School (when in operation) and to have shared opportunities for telescope viewings with many students.

He is survived by his loving wife ~ Belle Sutton Davis of Dalton, KY; a daughter ~ Tammy Davis Beckham of College Station, TX; two sons ~ Vernon Davis of Dalton, KY & David Lee Bruce Davis of Indianapolis, IN; a sister ~ Pearl Lazar of Akron, OH; and two grandsons ~ Daniel Loyd Bruce Davis & Christopher Beckham.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister ~ Ethel Martin and a half-brother ~ Clyde Vernon Davis.

Visitation for Mr. Bruce Harry Davis will be Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. – 11 A.M. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, KY. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Beshear Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Gunn and Joseph Coots III officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army, the Madisonville American Legion Post 6, the Madisonville VFW Post 5480, and the Earlington American Legion Post 2 prior to burial at the Dalton Cemetery in Dalton, KY immediately after his funeral service.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Coots III, Conner Coots, Joe Wiles, Chase Coots, Jeffery Wiles & Lonnie Mathis.
