HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Leonard Austin Long, 84 of Nortonville, KY, passed away Thursday May 2, 2013 with his loved ones by his side in the Western KY Veterans Center, Hanson, KY. Born October 13, 1928 in Nortonville, he was the son of the late Jewel and the late Nevel Mae (Thomas) Long. Mr. Long loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his family. As a young man he served in the U.S. Army and returned home to work 40 years for Whirlpool. He was a member of First Church of God in Madisonville.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jean Franklin Long; two daughters, Faye (Jerry) Lear of White Plains, KY, Cathy (Jamie) Lear of White Plains, KY; two sons, Ray (Nadean) Long of Hopkinsville, KY, Ricky (Jennifer) Franklin of Nortonville, KY; two sisters, June Riley and Cheryl Adkins; one brother, Jerry Long; nine grandchildren, Kenneth Lear, Paula Littlepage, Trent Lear, Ashley Lear, April Burch, Mathew Long, Michael Adams, Jim Adams, and Taylor Franklin; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his first wife, Mattie Jean Rash Long; brother, Billy Long; and sister, Dean Long.
Friends may call Monday from 9:30 am-2 pm at Bandy Funeral Home, Nortonville. Funeral service will be held at 2p.m. at the funeral home with Bro. Ernie Grimes and Bro. Sam Beeny officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Mortons Gap with the Hopkins Co. Honor Guard performing military rites. Condolences may be made online at bandyfuneralhome.com.
