Finis Ray Cates, 76, of Madisonville, KY

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Finis Ray Cates, 76, of Madisonville, KY passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at his home.

He was born on December 8, 1936 in Madisonville to the late Ruth Roosevelt Cates and Harry Davis Cates. He retired as a coal miner from Island Creek Coal Co. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Madisonville.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Louise Cates.

He is survived by his sisters, Anna Boze, Helen Hartline both of Madisonville and Barbara Lamb of Nebo, KY; his brothers, Marvin (Brenda) Cates of Reed, KY, Harold (Linda) Cates of Nebo, James Cates of Madisonville and Thomas (Connie) Cates of Henderson, KY; caregiver and niece, Brenda Daughtery of Nortonville, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Rev. Rick Oakley officiating. Burial to follow in Grapevine Cemetery in Madisonville.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour Friday at Harris Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Danny Boze, Dewayne Cates, Walter Arnett, Daniel Arnett, Jordan Givens and Blake Vaughn.
