1sunsetMADISONVILLE, Ky. – William Lee ‘Bill’ Mitchell, 85, of Hanson, KY, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Baptist Health in Madisonville.

He was born November 24, 1927 in Madisonville, KY to the late Robert Lee Mitchell and Melvina Riggs Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell was a Locomotive Engineer for 41 years for L&N and CSX Railroad. He was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Hanson, KY. He was also past master of the Madisonville Masonic Lodge #143 and past president of Hopkins Co. Shrine Bingo. Mr. Mitchell was a Kentucky Colonel and World War II Veteran serving in the Signal Corp. He was a UK fan, he loved hunting, NASCAR, gardening, farming and spending time with his family. He went peacefully to be with Jesus surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Mitchell was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mrs. Henrietta "Hennie" "Momzie" "Mom-Mom" Mitchell.

He is survived by two daughters, Gale Lutz of Hanson, KY and Tandi (Terry) Sager of Madisonville; two sisters, Lillie Branam and Betty (Earl) Ashby both of Hanson; a granddaughter, Whitney (Matt) Strader of Hanson, KY; two great granddaughters, Lexie Leigh Duncan of Nebo, KY and Hailey Anna Strader of Hanson; one great grandson, William "Will" Mitchell Strader of Hanson and caregiver, Dorothy Stewart.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Taylor and Rev. Bobby Sellers officiating. Burial will follow in Hanson Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Hopkins Co. Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and after 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donation to the Olive Branch Church Building Fund or the Shriners Childrens Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
