Mary Ellen Polley Winchester

1doveHENDERSON, KY. - Mary went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 1, 2013. She was born in Madisonville to Aubrey and Alline Polley on September 13, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ivan Polley.

Mary is survived by her husband of 52 years, Leo Winchester of Bervard, NC. She is also survived by brothers, Paul (Sally), Douglas (Jan), Jackie, and Keith of Madisonville and sisters, Alma Lester and Betty Combs of Madisonville and Pat Woodard of Nortonville, an aunt, Thelma Locke and uncles, Clyde Slaton and Everett Polley, all of Madisonville.

Mary attended Madisonville High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education as well as a Master's Degree and Rank 1 from Western Ky University...where she met the love of her life, Leo.

Mary was a lifelong educator and has impacted the lives of so many children and families through her years of dedicated service. She taught at Nortonville Elementary School, Cairo Elementary and South Heights Elementary, where she served as the school librarian

Mary was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for 49 years, where she served in the Woman's Missionary Union. She was the church librarian and a faithful teacher of the Bible to adults as well as children for many years.

Mary had so many gifts and talents and was always willing to share them with others. She never met a stranger and had a special gift of being able to engage and laugh with children. She was a precious servant of the Lord who touched so many and leaves behind a beautiful legacy of kindness and grace.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mary's Life Celebration from 2:00-8:00 PM, Friday, July 5, 2013 at Tapp Funeral Home and again on Saturday 9-11 AM at First Baptist Church, 307 Center St. in Henderson, Ky. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with Reverend Todd Linn PhD officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.

Memorials may be given to Western Ky University, Riverview School of Henderson or Berea College.
