Over $12 million Approved for Programs, Services in Tri-county Region

gov money 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (7/13/13) – Over $12.2 million in projects and services for Hopkins, Christian, and Muhlenberg counties were approved today by a state legislative oversight committee in Frankfort, State Rep. Brent Yonts reports.
 
Most of the funding approved by the Government Contract Review Committee is for mental health care or area development projects administered out of Christian County. The largest funding item is $5.4 million in mostly state funds for community based services provided by Pennyroyal Mental Health in Hopkinsville. The second largest project approved, in order of expense, is $2.8 million in mostly state funds for family and social services provided through the Pennyrile Area Development District, also located in Hopkinsville.
 
The Pennyrile ADD will also receive $1 million from the Kentucky Traumatic Brain Injury Trust Fund to distribute statewide to those who are eligible for assistance, according to committee reports.
 
Other funds approved for Christian County-based services include: $675,940 in federal funds for family and social services provided through the Pennyrile Allied Community Services; $400,000 in agency and state funds to Pennyroyal Mental Health for drug court services; $328,500 in state funds for alcohol and drug prevention provided for state inmates by the Christian County Jail; $188,913 in state funds for career and technical education provided by the Christian County Board of Education; $101,466 in federal funds to the Christian County Board of Education for an educational recovery specialist; $149,860 in state general funds and tobacco settlement funds for services provided by the Pennyrile Child Advocacy Center; $65,378 in federal and agency funds to the Pennyrile ADD for care for older Kentuckians; $72,081 in agency funds for the county Board of Education to employ a network content specialist; $38,000 in federal and state funds for the Pennyroyal Center in Hopkinsville to provide an alternative to institutionalization for those with mental retardation or developmental disability; $20,000 in state funds for community education through the county Board of Education; $32,612 in state funds to provide bus transportation for the Christian County Day Treatment Center; and $30,370 in state funds for the county Board of Education for janitorial services at the Christian County Day Treatment Center.
 
Funds approved for Hopkins County-based services include: $250,000 in federal funds to Madisonville Community College to fund a Regional Migrant Center to serve as a central site for student records; $131,400 in state funds for alcohol and drug prevention for state inmates housed at the Hopkins County Detention Center; $96,867 in state funds for day treatment for school-age persons in Hopkins County, administered by the Hopkins County Board of Education; $68,057 in agency funds for the Hopkins County Board of Education to hire a Network Content Specialist; $47,432 in state funds for computer management services for Baptist Health Madisonville-Telehealth; $40,000 in agency funds to Cedar West Inc. for coal education for school children; $19,760 in agency funds for the Think Pink! Breast Health Program at Baptist Health Madisonville; and $7,515 in road funds for Hopkins County Health Department to provide flu vaccinations and hepatitis B and tetanus immunizations in the region.
 
Funds approved for Muhlenberg County-based services include: $151,860 in state funds for career and technical education via the Muhlenberg County Board of Education, and $20,000 in state funds to hire a full-time community education director for the county Board of Education.
