Treasurer Hollenbach Praises Unclaimed Property Employees

auditor adam2FRANKFORT, Ky. (8/3/13) – A total of $3,553,663 worth of checks representing 6979 claims are in the mail to Kentuckians this month thanks to the hard work of the employees in the Unclaimed Property Division of the Kentucky Treasury.

“I am so proud of our folks in unclaimed property,” said Kentucky Treasurer Todd Hollenbach.  “They have experienced a doubling of claims since the first of the year and have managed to cut the processing time down from 3 months to less than two weeks. They are truly a model of efficiency in state government!”

The checks range in size from as little as $2.00 from a forgotten credit balance up to a $371,000.00 check for unclaimed funds in a family estate.

The State Treasurer serves as custodian of all property surrendered to the state that is presumed lost or abandoned. Each year, the Kentucky Treasury returns millions of dollars in unclaimed property to Kentucky residents. Since 2008, under the proactive leadership of Treasurer Hollenbach and his Treasure Finder’s Program, the Treasury has returned a record more than eighty-eight million ($88,000,000) dollars of lost and abandoned property to thousands of Kentuckians and is still in possession of more than four hundred million ($400,000,000) dollars which he hopes to return to its rightful owners.

To find out if you’ve got some unclaimed cash coming to you, search the unclaimed property database at www.MissingMoney.com or if you don’t have access to the internet, you can call Treasury’s Unclaimed Property office toll-free at 800-465-4722, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. .
