Rick Allen, 63, of Madisonville, Ky

1doveHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Rick Allen, 63, of Madisonville, Ky passed away on August 15, 2013, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at Vanderbilt Hospital surrounded by his family.

Rick was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was passionate about his work as a coal miner and took great pride in his job. He served in the National Guard for two years before being medically discharged. He spent his life working hard & caring for his family. Rick was an avid golfer at Lake Shore Country Club and enjoyed tending to his garden with his wife. He was a good friend to many and will be missed dearly.

He leaves to cherish in his memory his wife Terri Allen, children Bart Allen (Lori) and Ashley Ward (Steve), his brother Jimmy Allen (Parma), his sister in-law Sheila Canler and step children Jill Daves, Leigh Chalothorn, and grandchildren, Robbie, Calli, Macey, Shawn, Chloe, Luke, Drew, Alex, and Cruz.

We'd like to thank the Vanderbilt Oncology and Palliative Care teams for their exceptional care during this journey.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday August 17, 2013 and will begin at 1:00 PM on Sunday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dave Lander officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Lutz, Terry Bivens, Gary Grace, Chris Rickard, Doug Hayden, Gene Wilson, Andy Thomison, and Harry Filback.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Cancer Society. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
