HCHS Principal Named Administrator of the Year

sally sugg 300HENDERSON, Ky. (8/28/13) – Sally Sugg, principal at Henderson County High School, has been honored by the Kentucky Music Educators Association 2nd District as the 2013-2014 Administrator of the Year.

KMEA's 2nd District includes music teachers from Henderson, Daviess, Hopkins, Hancock, Webster, Union, McLean and Ohio County, in the fields of band, choir, orchestra, and general music.

Sugg was nominated by the Director of Bands at HCHS, Adam Thomas, with support from Assistant Director Brandon Etienne, Choral Director John DeFerraro, and South Middle School Director of Bands Paul Metzger. Some highlights of her support for the music programs at HCHS include her creation of an assistant band director position, her successful push for an annual school wide musical, her frequent appearances at band and choir rehearsals, concerts, and contests, her instrumental role in securing new drums and color guard uniforms for the marching band, and her overall support of the high school band and choir departments becoming a unified music department.

Teachers from across KMEA’s 2nd District gathered at Owensboro High School for their fall meeting on August 26 where Mrs. Sugg was nominated and elected as recipient of the award. She will be honored with other recipients from KMEA’s twelve districts at the annual KMEA Conference in Louisville in February 2014. One of those twelve recipients will be selected as the State Administrator of the Year.

Several other Henderson educators were elected to district officer positions at the District 2 meeting on Monday night. DeFerraro was chosen as the District 2 Choir Chair; Etienne was elected to the newly created position of District 2 Middle School All-District Band Chair, and Thomas was selected as the District 2 Band Chair Elect, taking over the position of District 2 Band Chair in February 2014.
