Shirley Nesmith, 75, of Manitou, KY

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Shirley Nesmith, 75, of Manitou, KY passed away Monday, October 14, 2013, at his residence in Manitou.

He was born April 14, 1938 in Hopkins County to the late Vernon Nesmith and Alta Belle Guy Nesmith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gordon, Herbert, Morton, Clyde, and a baby brother.

Mr. Nesmith was a member of Concord General Baptist Church where he played guitar for 30 years. He was a member of the Madisonville Masonic Lodge #143 F&AM. He worked as a coal miner for Peabody Coal Co. and was a member of the UMWA and several gospel groups

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sue Nesmith of Manitou; two sons, Dwayne (Connie) Nesmith of Island, KY and Steve (Kim) Nesmith of Manitou, KY; and six grandchildren, Cameron, Amber, Whitney, Jared, Derrick, and Cody; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Fleming and Rev. Charles Lutz officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday and after noon until the service time at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday night.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Nesmith Jr., Monte Nesmith, Cameron Nesmith, Derrick Nesmith, Cody Nesmith, and Patrick Brantley. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Cain and Ralph Johnson.
