Richard Lester Slaton

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Richard Lester Slaton was born March 19, 1947, in Madisonville, Ky to Rufus Slaton, Sr. and Mable Lester Slaton. His parents, and one brother, Samuel Eugene Slaton preceded him in death.

He married Barbara Williams Slaton and to this union was born two sons. He was a graduate of Ky State University in the class of 1969. He retired from IBM after thirty years of employment. He united with the Clay City Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in the early 1970’s. He was an active member until his health declined. He enjoyed cars and golf. He was devoted to his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Barbara Slaton, and two sons –Robin Lance Slaton (Norma), Clarksville, TN.; Brett Lamar Slaton, Lexington, KY.; and one grandson, Trevor St. Martin, Lexington, KY.; two brothers – Rufus Sherman Slaton, Jr. (Shirley), Vallejo, CA.; William Andrew Slaton (Deborah), Madisonville, KY.; three sisters – Ann Slaton Langford (Harvey), Louisville, KY.; Kathy Slaton Tunstill, Louisville, KY.; Angela Elaine Slaton, Owensboro, KY.; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. With a special thanks to his sister-in-law Irene Williams.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at Milward-Southland preceded by visitation from 10 a.m. until noon. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, West Bend, Powell County, KY.
