WKMS Debuts New Storytelling Series, 'Just Next Door'

baskhaus 300MURRAY, KY. (11/14/13) - Murray State’s listener-supported, educational radio service 91.3, WKMS debuts Just Next Door, a documentary story-telling series from baskhaus radio group at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19. The second episode airs the following week at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Both airings preempt KET’s Connections with Renee Shaw.

Baskhaus radio group is a co-production of two former WKMS news report-ers, Rebecca Feldhaus Adams and Shelly Baskin. A love of public media and the drive to tell stories in a new and creative way led them to create the series Just Next Door, a 30-minute occasional series that tells the stories from your community that you never thought to ask about.

On Nov. 19 hear Episode 1: Hope Ninja, a story featuring Murray State University professor David Gesler and his unique battle to overcome the untimely loss of his wife. Gesler went through denial, panic attacks and finally peace as he developed his own new normal. On Nov. 26, Episode 2: Love in the time of Skype explores the semi-arranged marriage of MSU alumnus Jonathan Raj and his wife, Meghna. From Israel to India to Murray, Kentucky, Episode 2 explores cultural traditions, long distance relationships and the dynamic process that is the US immigration system.

Baskhaus radio group celebrates the official launch of its website and public airing of Just Next Door with an open launch party, Friday, Nov. 15 at Holmes Restaurant at 1901 US Highway 641, next to Circus Skate. The community is welcome. There will be an interactive storytelling art project with the Murray Art Guild, an interview corner and audio games.
