Desmond Hargis, 75, of Madisonville, Ky

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Rev. Desmond Hargis, 75, of Madisonville, Ky passed away at 4:05 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Ridgewood Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center in Madisonville.

He was born on July 19, 1938 in Big Rock, TN to the late Byrdie Lewis Hargis and James Perry Hargis. He graduated from Bethel College in Hopkinsville, Ky and Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN and later received his masters from Peabody Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He was a retired Baptist minister and instructor at Madisonville Community College in Madisonville. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Madisonville.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Linda Haskins Hargis; his son, Steven Desmond (Lisa) Hargis of Madisonville; his grandson, Harrison Desmond Hargis; and his granddaughter, Ryan Elizabeth Hargis of Madisonville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Dr. Joe Leonard and Rev. Harold Meers officiating. Burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville, Ky.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour Saturday at Harris Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be the Fox Sunday School Class and his grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made in Desmond's memory to Gideon's International. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
