Helen Nolan Harris of Madisonville, Ky

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Helen Nolan Harris went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 24, 2014. She was born March 19, 1925 in Bledsoe in Harlan County, Ky to the late C.A. Nolan and Sally Cooper Nolan.

On April 14, 1945, Mrs. Harris married Fred E. Harris and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage before his death in 2008. She was a riveter on B-52 bombers during World War II and a homemaker for her husband and their seven children, Antonia (Wayne) Carter, Michael C. Harris, Marsha J. Morse, Elizabeth K. (Bill) James and Jonathan D. Harris, all of Madisonville, Mark S. (Shirley) Harris of Slaughters, Martha J. Heltsley of Chesterfield, MO, granddaughter and caregiver, Heather N. Harris and granddaughter, Elizabeth (Dustin) Barber, grandsons, Kevin (Tina) Oglesby, Rafe Heltsley, Marc (Lynzie) Morse, Josh (Megan) Morse and Ty Heltsley; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

One of 12 children, she is survived by one brother, Clarence Nolan of Madison, IN and two sisters, Christine Nolan Vargas of Guzman, Mexico and Sue Nolan Twedell of Lima, Peru. Besides her husband, Fred, she was preceded in death by one son, Mitchell C. Harris and granddaughter, Stephanie Harris, nine brothers and sisters, Donald Nolan, Herbert Nolan, Elsie Becker, Etta Gaw, Betty Ramon, Jane Nolan, Fred Nolan, Mavis and Heather Heidts.

She loved spoiling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughters, Ramzie Morse and Rory Barber. She was a member of Garden Club. During their life together, she and her husband enjoyed traveling the world. She was also a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Father Gerald Calhoun officiating. Burial to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearer will be grandson, Kevin Oglesby.
