Lifeguard Training Classes Offered at CCCC

lifeguard chairCENTRAL CITY, Ky. (3/14/14) – Lifeguard training classes will be taught at the Central City Convention Center beginning April 11, according to Megan Chaney, one of the instructors of the classes.

"Classes will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 11 , from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 12 and 13, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 19," Chaney told SurfKY News.

The classes require that participants must be 15 years old on or before April 19, Chaney added.

At the completion of the course participants receive lifeguard certification for a two-year period. Other requirements include the ability to swim 300 yards, tread water for at least two minutes, and the ability to retrieve an object from seven feet of water.

"The course includes CPR, first aid, and expert use of an automated external defibrillator," Chaney said.

Chaney noted that with summer approaching, more and more pools are looking for licensed lifeguards.

"Although completing the course does not guarantee employment, many area pools, including the Central City Convention Center, are going to be looking for licensed lifeguards for the busy Summer months," Chaney said.

The cost of the course is $300, and the deadline for registration, April 1. For more information, call (270) 543-8480.
