Central City 'Alarms For Life' Campaign Kick-Off

fire alarmCENTRAL CITY, Ky. (3/20/14) — The Central City Fire Department, in cooperation with other fire departments in the county, will kick off their "Alarms for Life" campaign this Monday, March 24.

According to C.C.F.D. Chief Rick King, the free distribution of smoke alarms will cover the entire county.

"The C.C.F.D. will be coordinating this county-wide 'Alarms for Life: A Sound You Can Live With' campaign, in an effort to make sure every residence in the county is protected by a smoke alarm," King said. "We'll be working with the fire departments in Bremen, Drakesboro, Dunmor, Nelson Creek, Greenville, Beechmont, and Graham. Our mission is to place a working smoke detector in any home that needs one. You can call us at (270) 754-2345. We will make sure that all fire departments in the county involved in the campaign have smoke detectors on hand."

King explained that the fire departments will even come to each person's residence, if necessary, and install it correctly.

"We'll get the owner or renter of the property to sign a waiver to allow us to come into the residence and install the smoke detector," King said. "Then we will come back in six months to make sure it is working correctly. We'll keep a running list of how many we put up in each community. We've been lucky to have alarms donated by First Alert, Walmart, area hardware stores, and others have been made available to us at cost. You can call the CCFD any time seven days a week. There are six fire departments that are all volunteer, so we will make sure the correct fire department gets the necessary information."
