Greenville Police Confirm Official Misconduct

Greenville police deptGREENVILLE, Ky. (4/11/14) — Greenville Police Chief Darren Harvey has confirmed to SurfKY News that charges of official misconduct, 1st degree, and sexual abuse, 3rd degree have been filed against former GPD Officer Ben Aders.

Speaking with SurfKY News Friday, April 11, Chief Harvey said Aders was one of the newest members of the GPD.

"Aders began working for the department in July of 2013, and resigned earlier this month on April 3. He is no longer with us," Harvey said.

The Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department was given the task of investigating allegations brought against Aders by a yet to be identified individual.

In the official written statement issued by Harvey, he stated "In response to a citizen complaint received, this matter was referred to an independent law enforcement agency, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, for investigation. During the course of the investigation, Officer Aders tendered his resignation, which has been accepted. The investigation has concluded resulting in charges being filed against Mr. Aders. The matter is now in the hands of the prosecuting attorney. Any questions regarding the criminal allegations against Mr. Aders will need to be forwarded to the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department."

As of Friday afternoon, April 11, Muhlenberg County Attorney Darris Russell and the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Office were not able to be reached for further details on the allegations.
