POWDERLY, Ky. (6/18/14) — UK Basketball standout Jarrod Polson looked a little bewildered while receiving a proposal of marriage from Amara Stroud.

It was a first for both — Polson said it was the first time anyone proposed to him and Amara said it was the first time she has ever asked someone to marry her.

While Polson, 23, was kind in declining the proposal from the 14 year old, Amara's mother, Kelly Melton, said marriage would have to wait until Amara obtains her doctorate.

Amara said she wants to be a doctor or lawyer and then president of the United States.

Amara's reasons for wanting to marry Polson are very wise for one so young.

"Jarrod Polson is a very good Christian guy," said Amara. "To get the good guy, sometimes you have to put your foot in the door."

Had Polson accepted, Amara said, "I would be very, very happy."

Polson was in Powderly with teammates Jon Hood and Jeff Shepard at Pogue Automotive for a promotional event.

Jon Hood is a native of Hopkins County and was a basketball standout at Madisonville North Hopkins High School.  He also attended James Madison Middle School and Hanson Elementary.

Hood told SurfKY News that he plans to play professional basketball overseas.  He has an agent and is looking at several options with teams in several countries. He plans to leave in September and will be gone for the nine-month season. Hood rejected suggestions of NBA opportunities as a player or coach.
