MANITOU, Ky. – James Phelps, Sr., 59, of Manitou, Ky. passed away at 10:25 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

He was born on March 6, 1955 in Henderson, Ky. to the late Bulah Phelps and Gobel W. Phelps. He was employed with Wood-Mizer of America, Gibbs Die Casting and owned and operated J.R.'s Auto Repair. He was also a volunteer firefighter for Hebbardsville Fire Department and was a member of Gilleyville Community Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Phelps and his sister, Butress Embry.

He is survived by his wife, Tempie Cunningham Phelps; his son, James "Jamie" Ray Phelps, Jr., and his wife Araya of Henderson; his daughters, Kristy Rowland and her husband Bart of Ocala, Fla. and Marla Hurley of Evansville, Ind.; his sisters, Mary White and Judy Brooks; his brothers, Bud Phelps, Bobby Phelps and Glen Phelps; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bro. Randy Durham officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the funeral hour Thursday at Harris Funeral Home.
