Dr. Joe W. Jones, Jr., 92, of Madisonville, Ky.

joe jones_jrMADISONVILLE, Ky. – Dr. Joe W. Jones, Jr., 92, of Madisonville, Ky. passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 at Baptist Health in Madisonville.

He was born June 7, 1922 in Dawson Springs, Ky. to the late Dr. Joseph William Jones, Sr., and Olon Woodruff Jones.

Dr. Jones was a member of First United Methodist Church in Madisonville. He was a past president of the Rotary Club and also the Kentucky Dental Association. He was the second vice president of the American Dental Association. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He graduated from Western Kentucky University, attended Dental School at University of Louisville and studied oral surgery at University of Alabama in Birmingham. He was an oral surgeon at Trover Clinic for over 20 years. He also coached one season of basketball at Dawson Springs High School.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Neal W. Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Martha Jones; one daughter, Cindy A. Jones of Madisonville; one son, Joseph W. "Bill" (Kelly) Jones III of Madisonville; three grandsons, Brian Jones, Brock Jones, and Derek Townsend.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Don Davis and J.W. Durst officiating. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs, Ky.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brian Jones, Brock Jones, Randall Young, Richard Frymire, Ferris Larson, and J.W. Durst.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mahr Cancer Center. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
