back-alley-musOWENSBORO, Ky. (8/21/14) — The audition times and dates for 'Drowsy Chaperon' are 4 p.m. Sunday Sept. 7 and 6:30 p.m. Monday Sept. 8.

Auditions will be held at First Presbyterian Church 1328 Griffith Ave., Owensboro, Ky. Enter the church from the south parking lot off Clinton Place W. at the back. On Sunday go up steps to audition room; on Monday go in door which is parking level.

"The Drowsy Chaperone" is a musical with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. It is a parody of American music comedy of the 1920s. The story concerns a middle aged, a social musical theatre fan, as he plays the record of his favorite musical, the (fictional) 1928 hit "The Drowsy Chaperone." The show comes to life onstage as he wryly comments on the music, story and actors.

In a loving send-up of the frivolously inconsequential stage musicals of the Jazz Age, a fan known only as Man in Chair gives a spin to the original cast recording of one such musical, providing the audience with amusing minutiae about the play and the players.

This show demands a cast with a wide age range, 18 and up. All members will need to sing and dance. Interested people may sing a song from the show or a song of their choice. There will be an accompanist at the auditions.

The show will be performed in the Jody Berry Theatre at Owensboro's RiverPark Center Nov. 13, 14, 15 and 16, 2014.
