Annual Everly Brothers Cruise In Activities Begin Wednesday

Gospelfest

CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (8/26/14) — The 14th Annual Everly Brothers' Central City Labor Day Cruise In gets an early jump on the long weekend.

Activities begin this Wednesday in downtown Central City.

Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the free Gospelfest, Wednesday at 6 p.m. Last year's Gosplefest brought thousands to the stage area, and many of your favorites are back, along with new acts. This year's concert features Jason Crabb, Adam Crabb, The Bowlings, Jeff and Sheri Easter and more.

The event is sponsored by First National Bank of Muhlenberg County. FNB acting CEO Lani Gardner told SurfKY News earlier this month that there will be a special on stage tribute to Robert Lawton. Lawton was a very unexpected highlight at last year's Gospelfest when he danced near the stage to the music for a half hour. The Muhlenberg business icon was known as Bob to his many friends in the county. Sadly he and his wife, Helen, both passed away this year from health issues. Lawton was a director of First National Bank beginning in 1952 and had served as the bank's chairman of the board since 1981.

There are still some Gospelfest t-shirts available at all Muhlenberg County FNB locations with each donation of five canned food goods. Any remaining t-shirts will be available tomorrow at the show, free with five cans of food. The Feed Our Hungry Children is coordinated by the Greenville First Baptist Church and works to feed children throughout the county.

Also prior to Wednesday's show, there will be a special reading at 5:30 p.m. by Jason Crabb from one of his many children s books, "Jesus Plus You Equals Two." Bring your pre-school children for this inspiring event.

Thursday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. the Central City Lions Club Auction will be held, followed at 8 p.m. by a free concert starring Roy Kyle and The Hot Rod Cruisers.

The official start of the Central City Rock N Roll Cruise In is at 6 p.m. on Friday. Check out some of the most awesome classic cars from the early to mid twentieth century on the Central City strip, and there's a free concert at 7:30 p.m. starring Boys of Broad.

The Car Truck and Motorcycle Show will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the Cruse In Motorcycle Poker Run at 10 a.m., and
more free music into the night. First up on stage is Me and the Boys at 6 p.m., followed at 7:15 by The Everly Cousins- A Tribute to The Everly Brothers, and at 8 p.m. there's a free concert featuring The Fabulous Duke Boys.

Remember to bring a lawn chair and your appetite. A wide variety of food vendors will be on hand throughout the Cruise In.
