William Logan (Bill) Knight, 84, of Madisonville, KY

 

knight williamHOPKINS COUNTY, KY - William Logan (Bill) Knight, 84, of Madisonville, KY, passed away at 1:30 A.M. Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home. He was born September 26, 1927 in Hopkins County, KY; he was the son of the late William H. and Carrie E. Scott Knight.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sue (Franklin) Knight.

Mr. Knight was a member of First Baptist Church in Madisonville, and retired as a surface miner from Caney Creek Coal Company. He served in the Navy in World War II where he was stationed in Guam. An avid hunter, angler, and expert marksman, Bill was known as one of the top sportsmen in Kentucky. He was also a talented craftsman, and throughout his life he enjoyed making all kinds of unique gifts and gadgets. Never a stranger to a practical joke, Bill was at his best when devising the next laugh for the unsuspecting recipient of one of his many gags.

He is survived by two children, Bruce Knight of Madisonville, and; one daughter Lana (Emslie) Knight of Bowling Green, KY; one step-daughter, Kim Baldwin of Madisonville; four grandchildren, Jimmy Knight of Madisonville, Ken Knight of Rosebud, MO, Layla Slone of Lexington, KY, and Heather White of Sheridan, WY; and two step-grandchildren, Marci Oldham of Madisonville and Matthew Allen of Madisonville.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Roy Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Hopkins County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 10, 2012, and after 9:00 A.M. until service time Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Knight, Ken Knight, Matt Allen, Leonard Sissom, Ronnie Pressley, and Dunham Box. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Lutz and John Slaton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Kentucky/Southern Indiana, 6100 Dutchmans Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, KY 40205
