KUTTAWA, KY - Donnie Gene Wright, 76, of Kuttawa, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012
in Southgate Health Care Nursing Center in Metropolis, Illinois.
Mr. Wright was retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sgt with over twenty-two years service. He had served as an Air Traffic Radar Controller and as a civilian occupation as an air traffic control specialist supervisor and airplane dispatcher. He served two tours in Vietnam and three tours in Korea. He earned four over seas bars, good conduct metal, Army Occupational medal, National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star medal with 10LC, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit award, TET Counter Offecsive, Vietnam Counter Offensice Phase III, IV, VII, VN Winter/Spring 70, Army Commendation medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation medal. Mr. Wright was also retired from the Carbondale, Illinois Postal Service with six years service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #68 in Kuttawa, KY.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Elizabeth Kmucha Wright; two sons, Alan Wright of Kuttawa, Jeff Wright and his wife Marilyn of Conway, SC; one daughter Dawna Brightman and her husband, Rich, of Honea Path, SC; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two half brothers and six half sisters, all of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lindell Wright and Austin Wright; one sister, Judy Gearhart; one grandchild, Jason Alan Wright. His parents were Everett Wright and Evelyn Gearhart Wright.
Services were conducted Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville with Rev. Kenny Morrow officiating. Visitation was held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 P.M.
