John M. Goheen of Calvert City

BENTON, Ky. - John M. Goheen of Calvert City, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went home to be with his Lord on December 30, 2012

He was born July 27, 1927 in Birmingham, KY., to Roberta (Holland) Goheen & Russell Goheen.

He was a Veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was a retired supervisor from National Carbide (The BOC Group) in Calvert City, KY.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Calvert City where he served as deacon for 50 years.

John loved to travel and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing hunting and trapping. He was known by many as "Trapper John" He served as an officer in Fur Takers of America.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn (Capps) King Goheen of Calvert City, KY., one daughter, Kathy Poague, husband Gerry of Calvert City, KY., two sons Kendall King of Calvert City, KY., and Donald King, wife Lynne of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., five grandchildren, Amy King of Paducah, KY., Matt King, wife Angela of Spanaway, WA., Carey Goldsmith, husband Jay of Mt. Pleasant. S.C., Clint Poague, wife Kristen of Calvert City, KY., and Blaire Adams, husband Josh of Louisville, KY.

Seven great grandchildren: Grant, Henry and Will Goldsmith all of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Lucas and Olivia Poague both of Calvert City, KY. and Kate and Evan Adams both of Louisville, KY.

One brother Buster Goheen of Benton, KY., two sisters, May York of Benton, KY., and Cindy Darnell of Gilbertsville, KY., several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Michael S. King, one sister, Bobbie Hall and one daughter-in-law, Ann King.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Calvert City, Calvert City, KY.

Bro. Jim Ewing and Bro. Jerome Brown will officiate.

Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, January 1, 2013 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Collier Funeral Home in Benton, KY.

Friends may also visit with the family Wednesday, January 2, 2013 after 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Calvert City.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund 85 Ash St. Southeast, Calvert City, KY 42029.
