Richard Spain Shouse, 75, of Cadiz, KY

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Richard Spain Shouse, 75, of Cadiz, KY (formerly of Hopkinsville, KY and Hazleton, IN) passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his home of natural causes. He was born May 11, 1937 in Hazleton, IN to Marlin E. and Lucile C. Shouse. He was a 1955 graduate of Hazleton High School, where he starred in basketball, finishing as the 6th leading scorer in school history. For half a century, Richard spent the majority of his working life in the trucking industry, primarily as a long haul truck driver transporting livestock. Some of the companies he drove for were Shouse & Sherman, Ligon Specialized Haulers, and Hopkinsville Livestock Haulers. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His passions in life were his family and friends, IU basketball, old Western movies & books, Tennessee Walking horses, trips to the state of Texas, and University Heights Academy (UHA) basketball. He was a Methodist.

He is survived by four sons, Scott (Christine) of Wadesville, IN, Todd (Nanette) of Hopkinsville, KY, Grant (Heather) of Cadiz, KY, and Wade (Ladonna) of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren [Paige (fiancé Joey Weaver), Megan, Jordan, Nikki, Jenna, Kristian, Luke, Shelby, Savannah, Summer, Noah, Aaron and Will Shouse, Nick Watkins and Andria (Billy) Stanton, and 3 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Analiese, and Connor. He is also survived by his former wife, Anita Shouse of Hopkinsville, one sister Marilyn Horrall (Bob), his friend Mary Weakley, many nieces, nephews, and friends, and his UHA family.

Services will be as follows: Sunday February 3rd at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz, KY. Visitation will begin at 2pm, with a memorial service at 6pm. Tuesday February 5th at the Hazleton United Methodist Church in Hazleton, IN. Visitation will begin at 10am, with memorial service at 11am. Burial will follow in the Hazleton IOOF cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions may be made to the Richard Shouse Memorial Fund c/o University Heights Academy Basketball 1300 Academy Drive Hopkinsville, KY 42240 ATTN: Coach Grant Shouse.
