recovery drugPROVIDENCE, Ky. (9/21/13) – National Recovery Month, or formally known as National Alcohol and Drug Recovery Month is a national observance and sponsored by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services and Administration for those who are recovering from substance abuse and their families.

This observance educates Americans on addiction treatment and mental health services and how it can help those with a substance abuse problem or a mental disorder in order to live a healthier and rewarding life. It also promotes societal benefits of prevention.

Local communities across the U.S. hold hundreds of local community events to celebrate those who are in recovery and to educate their families and other community members. This year, there will be a first annual Speak-A-Thon held at the Providence Elementary School on Saturday, September 28, from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.

“The main purpose of this is to spread a positive message and help educate and a understanding of what addiction is,” said Michelle Moore. “There will be volunteer speakers who are still in recovery who will be sharing their stories. There will also be food and one of our speakers who just recently got a record deal will be performing as well.”
