BENTON, Ky. - Dorris Lee Stice, 97 of Calvert City, Ky., passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 8:22 p.m. at her home.
Born December 1, 1915 in Calvert City, Ky, Mrs. Stice was the daughter of James Thomas and Altha Hayes Lee. She was a 1933 graduate of Calvert City High School as co-valedictorian with Sarah Draffen Russell. Mrs. Stice and Mrs. Russell celebrated the 80th anniversary of their graduation on October 12th. She married Freeman 'Dink' Stice in 1942.
She attended the Dorian Institute in Paducah. Recognized as a pioneer career woman, Mrs. Stice began working the office of Benton Attorney Henry Hardin Lovett, Sr. in 1934. She did much of the title work involved in the construction of Ky Dam and Ky Lake. Mrs. Stice was also employed by the Wheeler and Shelbourne Law Firm, the Office of Rent Price Control during World War II, General Electric Supply, and Pittsburgh Metalurgical Corporation and was a co-founder and former co-owner of radio station WCCK.
She had been member of Calvert City United Methodist Church since 1926 and was active in the Church Choir and United Methodist Women. She was a 67 year member of Estill Chapter No. 73, Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Stice was a Ky Colonel and a Lady of Calvert City.
Surviving are son, Dwayne L Stice, Calvert City and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, an infant son, James Gilbert Stice, brother, Emmitt Hayes Lee.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Calvert City United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Eddie Bromley will officiate. Entombment will be in the Calvert City Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be at the church after 5:00 p.m. Monday.
Expressions of sympathy make take the form of contributions to the Organ Fund of Calvert City United Methodist Church, the scholarship fund at Murray State University - Paducah Campus, or Lourdes Hospice.
