PROVIDENCE, Ky. (1/31/14) ― Quick thinking by the Providence Police Department sent out an alert to search for a man, who had been brandishing a gun on North Green Street in Providence, and also put the Providence Elementary School into precautionary lock down mode Friday, Jan. 31.

According to Providence police, numerous calls came into the station about possible sightings of a man with a gun at around 9:50 a.m. After Providence Police Chief Brent McDowell arrived on the scene, the subject ran off.

The Webster County Sheriff Frankie Springfield and deputies, a Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Officer Todd Jones and a Webster County Constable Mark Turner assisted Providence police conduct a search of the area.

At about noon, officers searched the residence of Michael Sigler, who had barricaded himself inside the house. He was taken into custody without further incidence.

Sigler was charged with fleeing and evading police on foot and was served warrants for disorderly conduct and four counts wanton endangerment.

PROVIDENCE, Ky. (1/31/14) — Providence Elementary School in Webster County is on lock down at the moment until authorities apprehend a suspect in Providence that could be armed and dangerous.

"There is a lock down at the Providence School," said Webster County School Assistant Superintendent Alan Lossner. "But there's nothing wrong at the school."

Lossner said law enforcement authorities are searching for man that could in Providence and recommended the school go on lock down as a precaution.
