MURRAY, KY - Robert Patrick Taylor, 87 of New Concord, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at his home.
Born November 5, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Murray, retired Classified Ad Manager for Murray Ledger & Times.
He was inducted into the Army, April 17, 1943 and received basic training at Camp Atterbury, IN, where he was assigned to the 77th Inf Division South Pacific serving in the Western Pacific campaigns. Mr. Taylor was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with bronze star, good conduct ribbon, and victory medal WWII. Returned to the US on November 27, 1945 and was discharged from service.
He reenlisted in the Army January 8, 1946, attended Military Police School and was shipped to Europe where he was assigned to the 17th MP CID detachment in Southern France processing and shipping German POWs back to Germany; transferred to Paris France as a investigator for Army Graves Registration. Mr. Taylor was discharged March, 21 1948 and reenlisted for another 3 years. He was awarded the European Theatre Ribbon, and Good Conduct medal for the second time. received orders to transfer to Mortor Battery 2nd battle group, 5th Cav. in South Korea where he received Good Conduct medal with two loops and the National Defense Service medal. Upon returning from Korea he was assigned to Murray State University with the ROTC detachment and remained there for one year and was shipped to Germany where he was assigned to the 2nd Howitzer Battalion 5th Artillery, where he remained until March 13, 1964 and retired from the Army on June 1, 1964.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Bryan Taylor and Lillian Salmon Taylor; two sons, Max and Steven Taylor; three brothers John, Patrick, Thomas Taylor; one sister.
Robert is survived by his wife, Simone P. Taylor of New Concord, three sons, Partick R. Taylor of Memphis, TN, David B. Taylor of New Concord, Christopher A. Taylor of New Concord; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Rosary will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at St. Leo Catholic Church, Mass will follow at 11:00 A.M. Fr. Jason McClure will officiate. Imes – Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
