LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kathleen Moore Morgan, 93 passed away at the Hospice of the Bluegrass unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky at 7:45 a.m. EST on Thursday, January 10, 2013. She was born to John Moore and Florence Angeline Greer Moore on November 19, 1919, at Shelby Gap, Kentucky (Pike County).
Ms. Morgan was a 1937 graduate of Dorton High School. She attended Pikeville College. She received her B.A. Degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. She received her M.A. Degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a retired educator who had spent her career in the Pike County School District. She was a teacher at Dorton Elementary School. She served as a guidance counselor at Mullins High School. During her career, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International which is a professional honorary society of women educators. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) which advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.
In 1967, she and her husband moved from Pike County to Lexington. Ms. Morgan was the widow of Charles E. Morgan, an educator who retired from the Kentucky Department of Education after a long career in the Pike County School District as a supervisor of instruction, high school principal and mathematics teacher. Ms. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Morgan; her parents John Moore and Florence Angeline Greer Moore: two brother, Charles F. Moore and Clinton E. Moore; one sister, Frona Moore Osborne; three nieces, Blanche Tackett Williams, Sally Osborne Goff and Florence Moore Jackson.
She is survived by nephews: Hugh D. Moore of Owensboro; John C. Moore of Paducah; C. Thomas Moore of Benton and Charles E. Moore of Waverly.
She is survived by nieces; Shirley Moore Menendez and Nancy Moore Waldrop of Paducah; Jayne Moore Waldrop of Lexington; Anna Moore Morton of Knoxville, TN. She is also survived by nephews and a niece by marriage; George Morgan of Prestonsburg; Joe Adkins of Louisville and Cheri Sloan of Fort Mitchell. She is survived by two sisters-in-law: Mary Opal Baldwin Moore of Paducah and Mavis Banks Morgan of Prestonsburg.
She is survived by numerous great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews, cousins and former students. Special friends Angela Carpenter, Mary Magee and many special neighbors and friends.
The visitation will be at Milward-Southland from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013. The funeral will begin at 1:30 p.m. Services will be conducted by The Rev. Dr. H. Gregory Waldrop. The burial will take place at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens immediately after the funeral.
