LEXINGTON, Ky. - Ada Sweeney. I fought the good fight, I ran the race, I kept the faith…11 Timothy 4:7. Ada went to be with her Heavenly Father on Jan. 19, 2013. She passed away at Cambridge Place in Lexington, KY. She was born Sept. 3, 1923, and was the daughter of the late James Parker White and Hattie Green White, natives of Fayette County. She was the devoted wife of William P. Sweeney who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church where she taught the adult Sunday school class for years and ministered to the students from Asbury Seminary. A member of the KY State
Association of Licensed Nurses, she was a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, did private nursing and ended her nursing career at University of KY Hospital where she did clinical laboratory teaching Veneal Anatomy. Mrs. Sweeney served as president of the Lexington District of L.P.N., served at State Education chairman for four years for L.P.N. District 2, and served as vice president for Business and Professional Women's Club Inc. Pioneer. She was a member of Volunteer of Correction where she did jail ministry, she served as finance chairman for Volunteer of Correction, and a member of Gideon Int. where she served as Chaplain for three years and Auxiliary Chaplain for seven years. She was president of the Ladies Auxiliary and vice president for five years. She was made KY Colonel and received awards for outstanding work she did helping others. Her hobbies were flower gardening, vegetable gardening, playing the guitar, singing gospel music, painting in oils and reading.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Rister and son-in-law, Ron Rister, granddaughter, Paula Jean Rister Mullican and husband, Jeff Mullican, daughters, Kristen and Sarah, grandson, Paul W. Rister and wife Lisa Rister and son, Nathan, Aaron and Jacob, another grandson, Bradley W. Rister and wife Lauren, and children, William and Addie. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and child of God.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
