LEXINGTON, Ky. - James Lee Best Jr., 68, husband of Karen Best, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at his residence. Born in Lexington, he was a son of Lottie Mae Best Riley and the late James Lee Best Sr. He was a retired captain of the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government Fire Department and a member of Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church. He was an avid tennis player, he loved horses, weight lifting and the Lord. He was a board member of Dunbar Community Center.
Survivors other than his wife and mother are their three children, Stephanie Best (Cord Doss), DeNeia Thomas (Derrick) and Brandon Best (Angelia); three brothers, Marvin Best (Joyce), Steven Best (Wanda) and James Best (Sarah); three sisters, Loretta Best Owens, Gloria Hatchet (Ovan) and Lenis Beatty (Garrette); seven grandchildren, Daphne Walker, Tiphani Walker, Derrick Thomas Jr., Dedrick Thomas, Solomon Murray, Keliah Best and Isaiah Best; and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a special brother-in-law, Graham Owens.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. is in charge of arrangements.
