LEXINGTON, Ky. - Mary (Terry) Elizabeth Kimel, 88, of Lexington, widow of William Kimel, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 14, 2013.
Mary was the daughter of the late Herbert B. and Olga F. Lawless Popplewell, loving mother to three sons, Kris (Bridgette) Kimel, Lexington, KY, Rick Douglas Kimel, St. Petersburg, FL and Scott L. (Jenny) Kimel, Birmingham, AL; one surviving sister, Louise Barton, Lexington, KY; four grandchildren, Brittany Kimel, Charles Kimel, Kyle Kimel and Madison Elizabeth Kimel; and three great grandchildren, Slade Kimel, Jason Kimel and Harper Gratton.
Born and raised in Jamestown, KY, Mary left shortly after high-school to pursue her passion, singing. After winning a vocal competition at WHAS radio in Louisville, Mary, under the stage name Kitty Stewart, embarked on a successful musical career that included singing nationally with name “big bands,” such as Johnny Long, and live radio and the USO.
After marrying, she and her husband, William, resided and raised three sons in South Miami, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on Wednesday March 20, 2013 at Milward – Southland with a visitation beginning at 11:00 AM.
