LEXINGTON, Ky. - Jack Dempsey Duty, 74, of Lexington, KY passed away peacefully Mar 23, 2013 after a long illness. Jack was born in Grundy, VA, Nov 15, 1938 to Grover and Hettie Ann Duty. Jack graduated with honors from Corbin High School, where he lettered in football. After high school, he served in both the US Army and US Navy, and worked for General Motors, Fischer Body in Norwood, OH, a suburb of Cincinnati. Locals may also remember him from years ago at the Payless service station on Old Richmond road. Retired for many years in the Lexington area, Jack was a regular at Donut Days, PNC bank, Hobby Town, and the Clay’s Mill Road Speedway.
Jack is survived by his mother, a brother, Shane Patrick Duty, nephews Michael Cornell Duty and Terry Lee Duty, niece LaFonda Cher Bradley, and numerous extended family.
Friends and family will remember him for his extremely kind manner, his poker-face, his unpredictable humor, and his remarkable knowledge of aircraft and aviation history.
Funeral service will be 12:30 pm Tuesday at Kerr Bros. – Harrodsburg Rd. with entombment to follow in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5-9 pm Monday at the funeral home.
