LEXINGTON, Ky. - Aline Sutton Hopwood, 100, wife of James R. Hopwood, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013. She was born in Lexington, KY, daughter of the late Foster and Beatrice Sutton. At age 8, the family moved to Southern Indiana where she grew up, was educated, married and had three children. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Presbyterian Church. The family moved to Lexington in 1959 and later became members of Rosemont Baptist Church. There and at her church in Indiana, she taught Sunday School for 44 years.
In addition to her husband of 75 years, she is survived by her son, Roger Hopwood and wife Nancy, Lexington; daughter, Carolyn Averitt and husband, Robert of Lexington; and daughter Barbara Stephens and husband, Roger of Jackson, MO; nine grandchildren, James M. Hopwood (Melanie), Robert M. Averitt, Rebecca Labrillazo (Leo), Jeffrey Averitt (Lori), Elizabeth Jeffries (Doug), Robert Kail III (Lory), Carrie Trovillion (Thomas), Marc Stevens (Karen), Brooke Stevens; 18 great grandchildren; as well as three nieces.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Allen and a brother, Elvin Dean Sutton and one nephew.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Mon at Milward-Man O’ War. Burial will follow at the Charlestown Cemetery, Charlestown, IN at 3:30 PM Mon. Visitation will be 9 AM till service time. Memorials may be made to Rosemont Baptist Church-Elevator Fund.lin
