LEXINGTON, Ky. - Tommy Carson Hopkins, husband of Kathryn (Kay) Hale Hopkins passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013. He was born February 6, 1941, in Harlan County, KY.
He is survived by a daughter, Jane Hale Hopkins; a son, Thomas Wilson Hopkins; a brother, Dr. Jerome Hopkins and his wife Jacqueline Hagler Hopkins; and a sister, Jane Allen Hopkins Weathers and her husband Jeff Weathers. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory Allen Hopkins and Ora Sheets Hopkins, three sisters, and two brothers.
Tom graduated from the University of KY where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He received a bachelor's degree and masters degree in Civil Engineering. Tom was a Professional Registered Engineer and a Professional Registered Geologist. He was retired from the KY Transportation Center in the College of Engineering at UK. During his career, he was the author or co-author of more than 150 research articles and studies published both nationally and internationally. He was an avid gardener, enthusiastic traveler, and a loving husband and father. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and he was a member of The Friends of The Arboretum where he served as treasurer and vice president.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, April 7, 2013, 4:00 pm, at Milward-Broadway, with visitation immediately preceding at the same location from 2:00 – 4:00.
