LEXINGTON, Ky. - James Walter Wells, 86, husband of Virginia Wells, passed away Sun. April 7, 2013. Born Jan. 13, 1927 in Olympia (Bath County) KY, he was the son of the late William and Mollie G. Wells. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mr. Wells was employed and served in various capacities of law enforcement including: the Federal Correction Institute, the Fayette County Jail and Detention Center, and eventually retiring from the Fayette County Sheriff’s office.
Survivors other than his wife include four children: two daughters, Penny Griffin, Lexington, KY and Molly (Rick) Carr, Versailles, KY, two sons, James N. (Debbie) Wells, Jacksonville, FL and Alan Wells, Lancaster, KY; two sisters, Catherine Wells, Lexington, KY and Jeannie Larsson, TN; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy; and two brothers, Willard and Gudgell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wed. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1789 Tates Creek Rd., Lexington, KY 40522. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Tues. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd.
