Derek GIlpin, 51

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Gilpin, Derek, 51, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wed., April 10, 2013. Even though Derek had no idea that he would be leaving this earth, he was ready to meet his Lord. Derek was the beloved husband of Penny Warner Gilpin and beloved father of Brooke (Adam) Mabe, Bethany (Austin) Hearn, Holly (Alex) Beck, and Lauren Gilpin. Derek is also survived by three grandsons, Luke, Haydon and Joshua Mabe; his mother, Esther York Gilpin; one brother, Gil (Ronda) Gilpin; and one sister, Cassandra (Tommy) Sharp; and two very special cousins Missy Tharpe and Melody Bates.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emanuel Gilpin, and his sister, Belinda (Jack) Thomas. Derek is also survived by many loving family members, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. He will be missed on this earth by many friends.

Derek was the owner of Masonry Medic for the past seventeen years; he was a hard worker and provided for his family. Derek was a 1979 graduate of Lafayette High School. Prior to being a member of Porter Memorial Baptist Church, he was a member of Ashland Ave. Baptist Church for 40 years. He loved his Lord and often shared with others the plan of salvation outlined in God’s Word. Derek cherished spending time with his family above all else. He had never met a stranger, and made friends with everyone he met. Derek went to Doughnut Days daily to sit with his friends and share a cup of coffee, laughs and fellowship. He shared his faith with others everyday and looked forward to seeing his Lord and Savior face to face.

A funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. Mon. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Harrodsburg Rd. Visitation will be from 2-6pm Sun. at the funeral home.
