LEXINGTON, Ky. - James Russell Rupert, 100, a longtime resident of Mayfair Village, passed away April 10. Born December 15, 1912, in Grayson, KY. Jim Rupert was a son of Edward and Kennie Seaton Rupert. He was graduated from Pritchard High School and attended Duke University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. After college, he returned to Grayson and in 1932 married Ethel Cooksey. He owned and successfully managed Rupert’s Department Store in Grayson for 35 years until retirement. He and Ethel moved to Lexington and also enjoyed a winter home in Florida for many years. They moved to Mayfair Village in 1998. Mrs. Rupert passed away in 2001, while Jim happily enjoyed his retirement years at Mayfair until his death.
Survivors are two daughters, both of Lexington: Margaret Ann Rupert Bennett (Sam), and Kathryn Rupert Gentry; grandchildren Christopher Bennett, Alexandra Bennett and Kathryn Bennett Trainor (Ted), and Gregory Rupert Wylie; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews including Cindy Clark (Judge Thomas Clark) and Ann Ide (Bob) of Long Beach, CA.
Visitation at Mayfair from 2:30 to 3:30 on Sunday, April 14.
