LEXINGTON, Ky. - Ann Van Meter Tilson, 89, widow of Howard Gilbert Tilson, of Lexington, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013.
Born in Shelbyville, KY, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Stonestreet and Elizabeth Logan Hickman Van Meter. Ann attended Science Hill Academy until it closed in 1939 and graduated from Northfield Academy in Northfield, MA. She graduated from Wellesley College with a Chemistry major and received her Master's in Bacteriology from University of KY.
She once worked as a lab technician and taught briefly at UK before devoting full time to being a homemaker and farmer. She was a member of St. Hubert Episcopal Church, D.A.R. and the Iroquois Hunt Club. She was active in the KY State Foxhunters Association and she and Howard judged Foxhound Field Trials for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Melissa (Malcolm) Wood; granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth Wood; step-granddaughter, Stephanie L. Wood and step-great grandchildren, Kayla and Hagan Wood.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Benjamin Stonestreet Van Meter, Jr. and Francis Marshall Van Meter and sisters, Logan Van Meter Nelson, and Dr. Elizabeth Van Meter Wright.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday at St. Hubert Episcopal Church where a reception will follow.
