LEXINGTON, Ky. - Joan T. Coughlin Lang, 88, passed away peacefully April 17, 2013, at her home in Lexington, KY. She was the widow of V. Paul Lang. Joan was born in Minneapolis, MN, lived in Fayetteville, NY, where she and her husband raised their family and they retired in Vero Beach, FL for many years.
Joan was a longtime homemaker while also directing Barbizon Modeling franchises in Syracuse, NY, Binghamton, NY, and New York, NY. She was a community and church organizer and volunteered her time to run her personal development programs for young girls in the foster system in Syracuse and Vero Beach. She was one of the early members in the 1940s of The Grail in the USA, which is an international women’s movement for spiritual solidarity among faiths and building a world of peace and justice.
Survivors include daughters, M. Joanne Lang of Lexington, KY, M. Elissa Lang of White Plains, NY, and Mara G. Lang-Stanton of McLean, VA, and four grandchildren, Nicholas Rio, and Russell, Peter, and William Stanton. She is predeceased by her husband, Paul, of 63 years and her parents, Frances Edmund Coughlin and Alice McGrath Coughlin.
Funeral Mass will be held at The Grail in Loveland, OH at a later date. Inurnment will be scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504.
